4.2 Studying Multiplication Patterns
5x1=5
5x2=10
5x3=15
5x4=20
5x5=25
A. Describe any patterns you observe in the war the products change as the integers multiplied by 5 get smaller.

I see a pattern as in ever problem the number goes down by five. Another one is they are all by fives. Here is the pattern 25, 20,15,10,5,0,-5,-10,-15,-20.

B.1Use the patterns you observed to predict 5x-1. Explain your reasoning.
I think it is the same pattern only with negative numbers because its doing the exact same thing except with one negative number which makes the whole number negative

2. Write the next four questions in the pattern.

5x-1=
5x-2=
5x-3=
5x-4=
5x-5=

C. Complete the equations below, and use them to help you answer part D and E

4x-1=-4
4x-2=-8
4x-3=-12
4x-4=-16
4x-5=-20
D. Describe any patterns you observe in the way the product change as the integers multiplied by -4 get smaller.

The number pattern is going up by for each number. Each number is negative.

E.1Use the patterns you observe to predict -1x-4. Explain your reasoning.

-1x-4=4
-2x-4=8
-3x-4=12
-4x-4=16
-4x-5=20
It’s the same thing except positive numbers because a negative and a negative equals a positive.

E2. write the next four equations in the pattern.

Look up^

F Find the following products.
-3x7=-21 5x-8=-40 -11x-12=120 -3.6x2.7=-9.72

Follow Up

1.A,b -6x7=-42 -7x6=-42 No it dosent matter if you still think it does look at the two problems.

2.A,B -6+7=1 -7+6=-1 yes it does look at the problems for proof.

3.A,B -6)-7=1 -7)-6=-1 Yes it does look at the problem for proof.

4 When you add two negative integers, you get a negative result. Is the same true when you multiply two negative integers? Explain.

No because a negative plus a negative equals a positive but for adding it equals a negative
